Multi-Lingual Pack and Formula Browser on SD Card |
The HP 50g has a rich English-language user interface. It also has the ability to select Spanish or French, but this only translates a small subset of the messages.
A new product, the HP 50g Multi-Lingual Pack and Formula Browser, has been developed which translates nearly all messages of the calculator -- not just the error messages, but also the input forms, choose boxes, and some of the menus, adding up to around 1600 messages in total. This provides a very comfortable interface for users who are not familiar with English. Translations are available in French, Spanish, and Italian.
The product also includes a powerful formula browser, with an easy-to-use graphical environment for collections of formulas that shows them in a tree structure. The equations can be passed to the built-in solver for solving, similar to the built-in equation library (you have the choice of both the menu-based and form-based solver interfaces). Unlike the equation library, however, you are also able to quickly and easily create your own collections of formulas. There is no limit to the depth of the trees, and units are supported for the equations and pictures. The full screen is used, without the 16-pixel gap that some older programs have when run on the 50g. The formula browser includes the complete Equation Library (over 300 equations) in every language as well (English, Spanish, French, and Italian), as well as a second data set with over 140 business economic formulas.
The product is distributed on a 1GB SD card, which you use to install the software on your calculator. Once installed, you can continue using the SD card for data storage, or you can store it in a safe place for reinstalling the software if removed. This is commercial software and is only licensed for use by a single user, tied to the calculator's serial number, but if you have to replace your calculator, a means is provided for transferring the license to the new calculator. If you own multiple calculators (for example, one at home and one at work), the license can be extended for use on multiple calculators. Please contact the author for details.
Also pre-loaded onto the SD card is extensive documentation, totaling more than 50 pages for each language, detailing the installation, the translation engine, the tree browser, and the software for creating new datasets for the tree browser.
