Premium USB AC AdapterBack ordered until Jan 31. |
Unlike other recent HP calculators, the HP 50g directly supports an AC adapter without the need for hacking anything. This feature uses the USB port, and is very handy because of the high power consumption of the 50g when compared to previous models.
Normally, when the 50g is plugged into the USB port of a computer, it automatically draws power from the computer. However, users sometimes would like to power their calculator with external power when not near a computer. For this purpose, this USB AC adapter is useful.
Simply plug your calculator into the USB cable provided with the calculator, then plug the other end of the USB cable into this AC adapter, and finally plug the AC adapter into the wall. Your calculator will now be running off the AC mains.
One caveat is that the calculator will warmstart if the AC adapter is unplugged from the wall while the calculator is turned on. The same behavior is seen when the computer to which the calculator is connected is rebooted, and is therefore a design flaw with the calculator (it does not properly switch to battery when the external voltage sags) rather than a problem with the computer or AC adapter. It is, however, a very cheap adapter, and a more expensive one might be able to work around this limitation of the calculator.
This is a more compact, higher quality AC adapter than the other one offered here, but it does not have a folding plug.
